What will your legacy be? Will you help SU pass on the message of God’s love to future generations?
You can ensure a strong ministry to children and their families in several ways:
- A bequest in your will for a specific sum or portion of your estate
- Naming Scripture Union as a beneficiary of your RRSP, RRIF or pension, or life insurance policy
- A bequest of assets, such as stocks, bonds, mutual funds, or real estate
There are significant tax advantages to leaving a legacy. Those who die with large RRSP or RRIF holdings which are not given by will to a spouse, will have the total value added to their income in the year of death, and taxed fully as income.
However, RRSP and RRIF amounts given to a registered charity, at the time of death, will be received by the charity without deduction for tax. This is because the holdings are income in the year of death, and we’re allowed to deduct 100% of charitable donations for tax purposes in the year of death. What a great way to make a difference!
