Important Dates

March 1, 2012 - Application Deadline.  Note: deadline has been extended on month, but interviews will begin as early as February 1, 2012 for those who submit applications earlier.

June 28-30 - Intern Retreat.  Team-building, worship, camp planning and more!  A fun retreat to get everyone excited for Summer 2012.

July 2-6 - Intern Training @ SU Canada Head Office, Pickering, ON.  SU will find a place for you to stay near the office for this week of training.  Led by SU staff, who have a combined 60 years of experience in church, youth, children and sport's ministry.

July 9 - August 24 - Local Missions.  Interns will meet every Sunday afternoon and head out together to a new city each week.  Teams stay with billets from the local church in each city and have a great time leading camps and making new friends as they travel across Ontario.

FAQ's

Do I need to be an athlete?  No, but SU camps are predominately run as sports camps (SU Sportz), so priority will be given to athletes.  All are encouraged to apply.

Will I be paid?  Yes.  The amount will depend on your experience, position and funding.

Am I expected to fundraise? Yes.  SU is a not-for-profit organization and does not charge for the internship, and continues to keep the cost of leading a summer camp down for church partners.  To facilitate ministry costs, SU staff, and Interns, fundraise to support the ministry.  This is also an essential skill to learn, especially for individuals going into ministry.  SU will guide you and help you greatly through this process.  Please note that you DO NOT fundraise your salary, instead you fundraise to support the ministry.

What am I expected to do? Interns are expected to represent SU and ultimately, Christ, as they travel across Ontario helping churches run quality day camps.  All interns will work with children, lead games, lead devotions and demonstrate Christ's love to all they meet.  Everyone is expected to live according to the Code of Conduct as explained in the application.

Can I earn a course credit from this?  Yes, Redeemer University College is offering a course credit for those who have successfully completed the SU Internship.  SU has also worked with other post-secondary institutions to secure past interns a course credit for their involvement in the Internship.

Do I need to be a student? Yes, applicants should be enrolled in school for Spring 2012 and Fall 2012.

Can high school students apply? Students going into university can apply, though we strongly suggest that high school students first complete the LIT (Leaders-in-Training) program with SU first.  Click here for more information.

I don't live in Ontario, can I still apply?  Yes, the internship is open to all students who can legally work in Canada.  Those who would like to be part of the Internship but can not legally work in Canada can still apply and participate on a volunteer basis.   SU will help all interns find accommodations near the National Office in Pickering.
